The original Sabrina The Teenage Witch was a jolly, all-American sitcom about casting spells, hunky boys and the importance of family. Netflix’s new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina reboot is about Satan (and feminism).

Yep, taking a page out of Riverdale‘s distinctly horny, distinctly risque book, the modern Sabrina is surprisingly boundary-pushing for content ostensibly aimed at teenagers. Following the exploits of a young witch and her torment over whether she should commit to the human or the occult world, the first season of the show — or ‘part’, as it’s formally being described — was a mess of Satanic prayer, supernatural goats and summoning circles that emphasised blood over making out with boys.

Well, the trailer for the second ‘part’ has just dropped, and hey guess what — shit looks intense.

The thing kicks off the only way it ever could — with Sabrina dousing her high school in a liberal coat of kerosene before dramatically lighting a match.

From there, it’s a flurry of old faces, flirty teens and a great deal of witchcraft. Oh, and there’s a brief cameo from ole mate Satan himself, the ruler of all evil that granted the young witch her powers.

It all looks great, but here are some of the most interesting glimpses the trailer gives us: the promise that Sabrina is “getting darker”; the extraordinary scene where the young witch crushes two young men (presumably) to death with the sheer power of magic; and that hunky dude who gets summoned out of the bathtub.

“Do you think you can handle it?” the titular heroine asks at one point, trademark smirk plastered over her lips. And “probably not, hey” is the answer if she’s gonna keep messing around with all those overflowing vestibules of blood, to be honest.

The second part of the Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina hits Netflix on April 5.
