A Cute Reminder To Always Support Your Uni Mates
Some students in the US have proven that rallying around each other is the way to go.
Sometimes it can feel like we need to compete against our peers to get ahead. After all, isn’t the point of uni? To get the best grades, deliver the most fire presentations and leave everyone behind in the dust when we score a grad job?
But we don’t think it has to be that way. There’s a group of students in the US proving that bringing each other up is the best way to succeed.
Josh Grubbs, a PhD candidate at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, posted a tweet showing how his fellow grad students celebrate each others’ successes. All of them make each other personalised posters to congratulate them on how hard they’ve worked.
The PhD students in my department have a tradition of celebrating each others’ successes with personalized posters. There is such a culture of support and camaraderie here.

Personal faves of ours include, “This proposal was brought to you by Luke’s. Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!” in reference to the Gilmore Girls and “World’s Best Graduate Student” which refers to The Office. Also, “Your thesis was POPPIN!” with accompanying pictures of popcorn is just delightful.
Anyway! Just a cute little reminder that just because someone else is doing great, doesn’t mean there’s no room for you too.
So check in with your uni friends and let them know they’re doing a good job. Especially if they’re going through exams or are a bit worried about their results. Buy them a coffee or make them a really excellent poster? It’ll make their day.
