Nobody Can Get Over Regina King’s Powerful Opening Monologue At Tonight’s Oscars
"if regina king says that borat is pronounced ba-rat, then it’s now pronounced ba-rat"
Regina King just opened the Oscars and everyone has decided that she should simply host everything ever.
The Oscars are a little different this year. Breaking from the tradition of hosting the ceremony in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the Oscars are being hosted Downtown LA’s Union Station.
Unlike many awards shows this season, the Oscars are also opting for a small in-person ceremony, rather than hosting the ceremony via Zoom. The audience is made up mostly of nominees and their loved ones.
There was no assigned host but Regina King walked in the room and everyone started clapping and it was too awkward not to hand it over to her.

While the Oscars have gone hostless this year, this didn’t stop Regina King from winning the hearts and minds of everyone with a killer opening monologue. King, whose directorial debut One Night In Miami is also nominated, introduced the films nominated for best film.
Most iconically, King pronounced Borat as Be-rat, while pronouncing Minari and Chloe Zhao’s last name correctly with the correct Korean and Chinese pronunciation respectively. As a Black mother, King also took the opportunity to advocate against the rise in Anti-Black police brutality in the United States.
Regina King pronounced "Zhao" the Chinese way, too. She did the reading, showed up prepared, and we see it and appreciate it <3

Not to mention that Miss King looks absolutely stunning. On Hollywood’s biggest awards night, King tapped Louis Vuitton once more, this time for a custom periwinkle blue look that feels fairy tale-esque.
Looking incredible, King will present the award for best supporting actress. She will also join her cast as director of her nominated film, One Night In Miami.

At the end of the day, I think we can all agree that… Regina King. From directing, to acting, to advocating, to potentially hosting Hollywood’s biggest night — s there anything she can’t do?
