The 2019 Queer Screen Film Festival Is Back For Mardi Gras
Here’s to celebrating what makes you you.
Grab the popcorn and find a hot date, because the Queer Screen film festival is here, queens! Brought to you by Jaguar, the program is absolutely packed with more queer storytelling than you can shake a glitter-covered makeup brush at.
Queer Screen’s 26th Mardi Gras Film Festival is back from February 13 to 28 with more than 120 flicks celebrating queer storytelling on the big screen.
The program is loaded with award-winners and fan favourites, like Melissa McCarthy’s Oscar-nominated Can You Ever Forgive Me, the Robert Mapplethorpe biopic, and the wildly popular Lesbian, Gay, Feminist and Hot Boys Shorts.
Closing the festival with a bang is the award-winning and Oscar-nominated queer historical biopic The Favourite on February 27. Following the illicit relationships between Queen Anne and two of her royal advisors, The Favourite is a charming and twisted story of royal intrigue, friendship and betrayal.
Watch out for a special short film about Australian singer-songwriter and newly appointed Jaguar ambassador, Alfie Arcuri, the first openly gay male winner of The Voice, screening just before The Favourite. Commissioned for the festival by Jaguar, the short will explore Alfie’s personal journey and the challenges and accomplishments that he’s faced throughout his life as a gay man.
The full Queer Screen film festival program is on sale now. Check out the website for details on all 120 screenings and to book tickets that your date will wanna see.
After the credits have rolled on Queer Screen and you’re getting glammed up for the parade, make sure to drop by the Jag Queen Service Centre to take you Mardi Gras look to the next level. The fabulous folks from Jaguar will be giving free makeovers fit for a queen between 12pm and 6pm on the day of the parade.
See you there, sweeties.
