The QLD Punjabi Community Is Raising Money For The Family Of Murdered Bus Driver Manmeet Alisher
Donations can be sent to the Punjabi Cultural Association of Queensland.
Members of Queensland’s Punjabi community are calling for people to donate to a fund set up to support the family of 29-year-old Brisbane bus driver Manmeet Alisher, after he was murdered in an unprovoked attack on Friday.
Information about the fund was shared by the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, whose members are said to have been “[brought] together in grief” in the wake of their colleague’s death.
“Manmeet Alisher was a popular, kind and generous member of his local community, and a loved member of the RTBU family,” reads a flier on the union’s Facebook page. “He was taken from us in appalling and tragic circumstances.”
“Manmeet lived a wonderful life that was cut far too short, and he will be missed by all his colleagues.”
Alisher was killed on Friday after being set on fire by a Molotov cocktail-like device that was thrown inside his bus at a stop in Moorooka. His alleged killer, 48-year-old Anthony Mark Edward, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday, where he was charged with murder, 11 counts of attempted murder, and arson.
More than 1,000 people gathered to pay their respects to Alisher at a memorial service on Saturday night. According to the RTBU, those wishing to make a donation to Alisher’s family can do so via bank transfers marked ‘Manmeet’ to the Punjabi Cultural Association of Queensland.
