‘Prisoners’ Shows Us What Hugh Jackman Will Do To You If You Abduct His Daughter
Basically, he'll go nuts, something like Liam Neeson in Taken.
After recently revealing the weird dietary regime he’s been following to bulk up for the upcoming The Wolverine (nothing for 16 hours, then an insane 8-hour rush of “steamed chicken and steamed spinach” between 10am and 6pm), it’s understandable that Hugh Jackman may be feeling a bit agitated lately. Perhaps some of this strung out restlessness has fuelled his potentially frightening performance in the new dramatic thriller, Prisoners, whose trailer has just hit the internets.
Directed by Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, the film stars Jackman and Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow) as a couple of Bostonian dads, who understandably go nuts when their daughters are mysteriously abducted one snowy afternoon. With the help of the strangely symbolically named local cop, Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal, sporting a crazy neck tatt and slick goth hairdo), the guys go after the young dude they suspect is behind the disappearance, played with creepy conviction by Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood).
The comparisons to Liam Neeson’s Taken seem inevitable — you know, the whole horrific child abduction, revenge tale, vigilante justice, Yelly McYell-fest, fatherly heroics thing — although judging from the trailer, Prisoners seems like it could take a slightly more sadistic turn. Enough blabbing, though, watch it for yourself. The film’s due out in cinemas in September.
