How To Experience The Best Of Perth On A Student Budget

Brought to you by City of Perth

Cancel your plans. You’ve got places to be and people to see in the city.

OK, let’s be real. The fact that you’re not saving heaps of coin while you study doesn’t mean you’re destined to live a life spent sitting on the couch with dried up 2-Minute Noodle bits in your hair.

The notion that we somehow have to drop major cash in order to enjoy awesome solo adventures or nights out with our mates might be the most depressing thing in the world. That’s why we’ve taken to the city streets of Perth to uncover the best experiences that’ll bring a smile to your dial without sending you to the ol’ poorhouse in the meantime.

Godzilla Thursdays

With a name like that, you’d expect any night at this venue to be epic and, thankfully, that’s exactly what’s on the cards. Lucky Chans Laundry and Noodle Bar has some serious vibes and an atmosphere you won’t soon forget – think retro cool-meets-industrial chic. It also happens to serve up some of the best ramen in town.

Swing by on Godzilla Thursdays and you’ll get the chance to demolish a Godzilla ramen of your choice, accompanied by a hearty glass of Fernet-Branca to help you digest your major meal. This combo will set you back a cool $25 and, if you manage to defeat your dish, you’ll also have your pic taken and be immortalised on the prestigious Clothesline of Fame. Come on, make your mates proud. They can enjoy $5 schooners of Mountain Goat lager while they cheer you on.

To sweeten the deal, the venue has a rooftop bar with a unique view of the city, meaning it also doubles as the perfect spot for impromptu Insta shoots (no camera can resist a rooftop at sunset).

Wheat St

Situated in the Market Hall at Yagan Square, Wheat St is all about super fresh, gourmet food with a delicious European twist. Sounds fancy, no? Thankfully, anyone can afford to enjoy a tasty dining experience at Wheat St without having to borrow another $100 bucks from their suspiciously cashed-up younger sibling (we’ve all been there).

Not only does Wheat St do awesome $10 lunch deals during the day, it’s also offering two-for-one beers every Thursday night through the month of May. Grab yourself an Otherside beer on tap and you’ll have three chances to nab a second beer for free.

If you’re not in the mood for beer, tuck into Wheat St’s infamous gnocchi and enjoy the market hall surrounds, which include a number of retro games, including Checkers, Connect 4, Let’s Go Fishin’, and more.

Street Eats Eatery

Are you the king or queen of chicken wings in your social circle? Do you fancy yourself the reigning champion of spicy food in your group? Well, how about challenging yourself to complete a whopping ONE KILOGRAM of hot, spicy, and crispy chicken wings from Street Eats Eatery? Its Taste of Singapore offer also includes two pints of Tiger Asian Lager, all for a measly $30.
