OXJAM Is Back To Tackle Poverty With Partying This August
Fighting poverty while partying? That's the ticket.
Ever wanted to combine your love of kickass gigs with charity? Well today is your lucky day, pal.
OXJAM is a nation-wide series of shows that raises money to help Oxfam tackle poverty around the world and in August, it will be returning to Australia. The deal is simple: host your own backyard gig or DIY party, get it registered through OXJAM, invite heaps of people, and get to work raising as many funds as you can.
It can be anything from a backyard gig, to a pub set-up, to a freaking stadium show if you can manage it — all that matters is you’re raising funds for Oxfam. This year, the cause is very close to home: OXJAM have chosen to highlight their Right To Refuge campaign, which fights for the rights of those seeking refuge in Australia.
As if tackling poverty with some sick parties isn’t enough, if you register for OXJAM you’ll also automatically go in the draw to win return flights to Brisbane, accommodation and two all-access Purple Passes to BIGSOUND 2017. Running from September 5-8, BIGSOUND is one of the biggest music events on the calendar, bringing together musicians, industry experts, and rabid fans from around the world for two packed days of gigs and conferences.
Seems like a sweet deal? Well that’s ‘cos it is. Matt Okine is on board as the OXJAM ambassador this year, and he has some sage words of advice if you’re on the fence:
“If you’re um-ing and ah-ing about hosting a gig for OXJAM 2017, all I can say is, just do it. Every single dollar goes a long way. And if you can’t host a gig, check out the OXJAM website and head along to one,” said Matt.
You heard the bloke. Now get along to OXJAM and register your party now.
