Noel Gallahger Found An Unreleased Album In His Sock Drawer, Because Of Course He Fucking Did
We might even get to hear it, one day.
There’s a certain kind of person who stores valuables in their sock drawer: it’s delightfully quaint, built off the premise that no one would dare rifle through such an intimate space.
Oddly enough, it turns out Noel Gallagher is exactly this type of person, as he recently revealed that he found a entire unreleased album of music while searching for a pair o’ socks.
In an interview on his YouTube channel, the ex-Oasis member played a little game of ‘true or false’ with British comedian Matt Morgan based off fan questions.
Of course, it’s filled with lots of outrageous statements, but we’re particularly enamoured with the news that Gallagher thought he had long-lost an entire album of material, but it was just hiding underneath some thick woolly socks — you know, the ones you never wear, so they just stay in the drawer for years, obscuring an entire artistic work you created?
The album in question is well-known to Oasis fans: it was Gallagher’s first attempt at a solo album post 2009 split, a ‘space rock’ album he worked on with production duo Amorphous Androgynous, the alias of prolific electronic duo The Future Sound Of London.
The whole thing was finished but ultimately canned, with Gallagher telling Noisey in 2015 it was “actually a bit shit” and “so underwhelming” that he never played it to anyone, including his manager. He destroyed most copies, and so was pretty surprised to find one recently.
“I did find a copy of it recently in a sock draw,” Gallagher told Morgan. “The masters, somebody has them, the masters have not been destroyed — but it won’t be coming out any time soon.”
It does seem he’s open to releasing a version of it in the future though. We have heard one track — ‘Shoot A Hole Into The Sun’ was released in 2011 under his new band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
“It might be nice to go back and revisit it in years to come, because ‘Shoot A Hole Into The Sun’ is fucking great and there might be more stuff like that in there. Best to give it a bit of distance though I think.”
We wonder what else is lingering around in Gallagher’s drawers. In other Gallagher news, Liam recently threw down the gauntlet for an Oasis reunion, and got very mad when someone threw a dead fish at him on stage. Fair.
