Hopefully she lasts longer than Sean Bean.

Naomi Watts has been cast in the lead role in one of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequels, and who wants to take a bet on how long it takes before her character is murdered in some unspeakable fashion.

The prequel series, one of five currently in the works at HBO, will be set thousands of years before Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen started traipsing around Westeros. The logline from the network, which has been floating around for a while now, sounds particularly grim: “from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it’s not the story we think we know”.

Further details are in short supply, although we do know Watts will play “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret”. Hopefully, the dark secret doesn’t turn out to be “incest”, but given the series is being co-created by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Meanwhile, the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is set to air in 2019.
