Brisbane rapper Miss Blanks has blasted Channel 10’s The Project for failing to contact her for comment following Kirin J Callinan’s extremely weird interview on the program last night.

Callinan appeared on the The Project last night to address the controversy surrounding his ARIA Awards stunt last year, in which he exposed his penis to photographers on the red carpet. He was subsequently charged with wilful and obscene exposure in a public place and handed a 12-month good behaviour bond in a Sydney court last week.

Callinan expressed regret over the incident on The Project, telling hosts Carrie Bickmore and Waleed Aly that the stunt was a “very silly and spontaneous thing”, and the fallout from it had been “heartbreaking.”

“I had no problem with certain sections of the media getting outraged,” Callinan said. “It was sections of my own community turning on me, whether it was musicians or the queer community or the arts community…[which is] a community that I’ve been a part of and given a lot to for my whole life. That was the hardest thing.”

Aly then questioned him about his removal from the 2018 Laneway bill, which happened after a number of artists — including Miss Blanks — placed pressure on the festival to cut him from the line-up.

“I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t very happy that another artist had a go at me, and went on the radio to do so,” Callinan answered. “But by the same token, she’s quite young she’s got an opinion. That’s cool, not everyone has to like me. ”

He went to call her opinion “misguided”.

The Brisbane rapper responded on Twitter not long after the interview aired, accusing the The Project of not doing their “due diligence”.

“ATTN: The Project,” she tweeted. “If you’re going to have my name in your mouth, please ensure you have your facts. I would’ve thought your producers would’ve done their due diligence in contacting my team for comments but that didn’t happen. I guess quality reporting isn’t a priority?”
