Watch Middle Kids Turn ‘Drivers License’ Into An Indie Rock Crusher
*breathes in* REDDD LIGHTTSSSSS.
It was a fitting Like A Version this morning: on the day that Olivia Rodrigo dropped her full-length debut SOUR, her debut single ‘drivers license’ gets a run on Like A Version.
The band brave enough to take on the massive single was Middle Kids, who upped the guitars and turned Rodrigo’s gentle pop track into an indie rock monster. Watch it all go down below.
“When I first heard this song, I thought ‘dannnnnnnnng, that is a very good song,’ singer Hannah Joy said in the accompanying triple j interview. “When we planned to do Like A Version I was like ‘Now I can do it!’ We just put the Middle Kids blueprint across the song and just went, ‘ching ching ching’.”
“We’re a band that really loves good songwriting,” added drummer Tim Fitz. “It’s struck a chord with people. There’s a deep emotion to it. I think we often look for deep emotion in songs we’re thinking of recording.”
They also tore through ‘Stacking Chairs’, from their new album Today We’re The Greatest. Read our longform profile with the band right over here.
