Sorry guys! triple j have revealed the person who will replace Marc Fennell as their resident film critic, and it ain’t you. Unless your name is Amelia Navascues, in which case hey, congrats!

The 22-year-old Sydneysider, UTS grad and community radio volunteer was selected from more than 1000 applicants. According to this profile of her on the triple j website, Navascues’ favourite movies include Barton Fink, Reservoir Dogs, Memento, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Talented Mr Ripley and Old Boy (the Korean version, not the shitty American remake).

Also, when she was in high school, she played in a punk band that only performed songs about cheese and Pokemon, which I think we can all agree are two subjects that don’t get sung about nearly enough.

Asked about her thoughts on the future of arts criticism in Australia, Navascues said that it would be “great to see more representation… whether this kind of representation is cultural, more chicks in art criticism, the LGBTQIA community, or just more young people!”

“Australia’s a pretty diverse place,” she added. “I’d really just love to see more voices being heard.”

Good luck Amelia. We’ll be following your career with interest. And hey, if you fuck it up, I’ll definitely try and steal your job :)
