Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali is on the cover of this month’s GQ magazine. In a related story, magazines as a medium have now peaked, pack it in all other magazines, your presence is no longer required.

The GQ spread consists mostly of photos of Ali on a beach wearing a series of tropic shirts. The internet is pretty into it, which same.

The accompanying interview is a great read as well, with Ali touching on topics including fame, fatherhood and race. “I think African-Americans have a very convoluted relationship with patriotism,” the actor tells GQ writer Carvell Wallace. “The fact is, we essentially were the abused child.”

“I absolutely love this country, but like so many people have some real questions and concerns about how things have gone down over the years and where we’re at. And that’s from a place of love, because I want the country to be what it says it is on paper.”

The interview also hits on Ali’s relationship with religion – he converted to Islam in 1999 and this year became the first Muslim actor to win an Academy Award. “Because of Islam, I am acutely aware that I am a work in progress,” he says.
