Lyle Shelton Bragged About Crossing State Lines Despite COVID Restrictions, QLD Police Respond
Looks like Lyle will continue to eat shit in 2021.
Ex-Australian Christian Lobby head and anti-LGBT troll Lyle Shelton has bragged to his 11,000+ followers on Twitter about a ‘sneaky run’ between Queensland and NSW despite state border restrictions from NSW’s COVID-19 outbreak — only to receive a response from Queensland Police that it’s investigating his breach.
Shelton, who spearheaded the ‘No’ campaign against the same-sex marriage plebiscite in 2017 and has since refocused to target the ‘Safe Schools’ anti-LBGT-bullying program and advocate for conversion therapy, tweeted on Saturday that he had a “sneaky run across the border and back”, writing that he had avoided the “CCP virus police”.
He also posted four pictures of his run, including two smug selfies — one of him smiling to the camera, and another sunbathing on concrete.
A day later, QLD Police responded on Twitter, replying to Shelton to let him (and the public) know they “are aware of this tweet” and are ‘making further enquiries’.
We are aware of this tweet and making further enquiries.

Currently, anyone entering QLD from NSW has to complete a border declaration pass, declaring that they have not been in Greater Sydney in the last fourteen days. If they have been, they won’t be let in, unless they reside in QLD: then, they will be placed in hotel quarantine for 14 days at their own expense.
In response to QLD Police’s tweet, most people had three words for Shelton: eat shit, Lyle.

On Sunday, Shelton provided an update, tweeting that he had spoken to QLD Police to ‘explain’ his run from Coolangatta to Tweed Heads in NSW, writing that “there were no checkpoints for joggers, walkers or lizards”.
Shelton then clarifies that as he hasn’t visited a COVID-19 hotspot, he was freely allowed to return to Queensland, and that he was more than happy to cooperate with police as they investigated his own antagonistic taunt.
“There is a valid debate re borders but I respect the role of our police,” he wrote, having seemingly forgot that he was only talking to police because he publicly implied he was breaking the law and that border closures were a communist overstep by our governments.
I was happy to speak with @QldPolice today & explain my run along the coast from Coolangatta to the Tweed & back. There were no checkpoints for joggers, walkers or lizards. I have not visited a ? hotspot. There is a valid debate re borders but I respect the role of our police. https://t.co/ItsD8vIPq0

On Monday morning, QLD Police addressed Shelton’s tweet when questioned about it during a media conference. QLD Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll called it “disappointing” and a waste of resources as the tweet required an investigation. Given that Shelton has a border pass, Carroll said it was a ‘funny tweet which in the end is not really that funny’ and that Shelton was taking away resources that need to be in other places.
“I ask that people not do that …”, she said, before adding in a later comment that “we don’t want people to waste our time, either”.
Queensland Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services Mark Ryan added his own comments: “there’s a saying out there that it’s better for people to think you’re an idiot than to open your mouth and confirm it. Maybe that’s a relevant application to Mr. Shelton.”
We’re four days into 2021, and Shelton continues to eat shit. Some things never change.
