‘Euphoria’ Star Lukas Gage Shares Awful Zoom Audition Where Director Makes Fun Of His House
His room looks perfectly nice, too?
Euphoria actor Lukas Gage has created a storm after sharing a video from a recent Zoom audition where an unnamed director can be heard making fun of the actor’s apartment, not realising he wasn’t muted.
Gage, who also features in Love, Victor, uploaded the video to his Instagram and Twitter, captioning it with a PSA: “f you’re a shit-talking director make sure to mute ur shit on zoom mtgings [sic]”.
In the video, which has now been watched more than 4 million times on Twitter alone, Gage is leaning towards the camera when a British man can be heard commenting on Gage’s apartment with disdain.
“These poor people live in these tiny apartments like I’m looking at his, you know, background and he’s got his TV and his, you know,” he says.
Gage instantly says, “I know it’s a shitty apartment. That’s why — give me this job, so I can get a better one.” The director immediately apologises, and says he’s ‘mortified’, to which Gage adds, “just give me the job and we’ll be fine.”
The post immediately gained attention from fellow actors, who praised Gage’s graciousness while both trying to guess who the arsehole director is, and lamenting that Gage’s immediate response — self-deprecation and pleading — is a given in the industry.
January Jones asked Gage to DM her the director’s name so she could ‘never work with that asshole’; Leslie Jordan, Joe Jonas and Cynthia Enviro praised his ‘class’, and others, such as Glee actor Kevin McHale said that it’s all too representative of how actors are expected to ‘walk the plank’.
Thank u @lukasgage for posting this. Actors have to walk out on the plank and be open and vulnerable in an audition and too often the people on the other side have 0 regard for what that takes and how personal it is. fuck 'em. (also that room is nice & u handled that v well) https://t.co/7ZeVhuW3lF

Judd Apatow, meanwhile, points out that the room is objectively nice. “As a young man I would have dreamed of an apartment like this one. Look at that sweet flat screen! The guitar! The moldings!”, he wrote on Twitter.
Gage, overall, seems to be okay with how the audition went: responding to a supportive comment by Molly Shannon, who he is currently filming HBO series The White Lotus with, he said “thank God I didn’t get the part because I wouldn’t be working with you in Hawaii right now”.
