Lorde Fans Show Westboro Baptist Church Protesters How To Protest
Yep, they're still picketing things. But Lorde's fans killed 'em with kindness (or incredibly deadpan sarcasm).
You thought the death of their crazy leader Fred Phelps last week was gonna mean the end of this kinda thing for hate-mongering hate group, Westboro Baptist Church? Wrong.
Over the weekend, the gaggle of nutcases announced they’d be protesting Lorde’s gig in Kansas City via a post on the still very busy ‘Picket Schedule’ listing of their blog, GodHatesFags.com. “She spends her time, energy and talent serving herself and teaching other young people how to be indolent rebels,” the official protest press release said of the 17-year-old pop singer.
Lorde, being the “indolent rebel” enabler that she is, laughed the whole thing off with a series of since deleted tweets.
While things unfortunately didn’t go that far, some of Lorde’s lovable fans did set their own protest just across the road from Westboro’s protesters. It was the gentlest and most mature counter-protest imaginable. “SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS”, read one of their signs. “LIVE YOUR LIFE AND BE AWESOME”, another one reportedly said. Either Lorde fans are ridiculously compassionate, or they have some exceptional sarcasm skills.
When a local reporter questioned a Westboro picketer about the counter-protest, he said “I don’t even know what they mean by what they’re saying,” which sounds completely accurate.
