Katy Perry fans very much had cause for concern following the Witness era. It was, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest misstep of her career, a misstep that resulted in public sentiment swiftly toggling from ‘General Appreciation’ to ‘Dear God Please Make It Stop‘.

So when lead single ‘Never Really Over’ landed back in May, fans breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Never Really Over’ isn’t just one of the strongest pop singles of the 2019, it’s one of the best of Perry’s career.

She’s now dropped ‘Small Talk’, the second glimpse of her upcoming album. Once again, it’s another strong step in the right direction — a bright, bubbly, and joyfully hooky piece of pop.

Apart from gearing up to release her new album, recently Perry popped up in Taylor Swift’s ‘You Need To Calm Down’ video. Dressed as a hamburger, with Swift as a pack of hot chips, they awkwardly but lovingly embraced — thereby apparently ending their long, simmering feud.

In a new Vogue interview, Swift explained that she contacted Perry to be in the video after she received a literal olive branch from the singer last year.

“She wrote back, This makes me so emotional. I’m so up for this. I want us to be that example. But let’s spend some time together. Because I want it to be real. So she came over and we talked for hours,” Swift told Vogue.

There’s also speculation that Perry could appear on Taylor Swift’s upcoming album Lover — but nothing has been confirmed by either party yet. For now, get stuck into ‘Small Talk’:
