House Of Cards Has A New Trailer And They’re Not Turning A Blind Eye To The #MeToo Era
"The reign of the middle aged white man is over"
“The reign of the middle-aged white man is over.” That’s what Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood says in our first look at House Of Cards‘ final season.
This will be House Of Cards’ first season since Netflix (and everyone else in Hollywood) dumped Kevin Spacey. The dumping followed the allegations he sexually harassed a young man in 1992. Actor Anthony Rapp aired the first allegation, then 15 other men came forward with allegations that spanned decades. Some were as recent as 2o16.
In the trailer, Underwood (Claire, that is) has taken over as president and is balancing running the country with grieving over her lost husband. There’s an incredible shot in the trailer of Underwood in smudged mascara that looks positively evil.
“My first 100 days as president have been difficult,” she says at the top of the trailer. “I lost my husband. We were about to celebrate 30 years together.”
We’re also treated with a shot of former Frank Underwood staffer Doug Stamper saying spookily “did you think you’d seen the last of me?”
Journalist Tom Hammerschmidt also makes an appearance, and it looks like he tracks down more Underwood crimes throughout the season.
