Hannah Gadsby has a novel idea for people who don’t want to vaccinate their children.

The comedian behind the critically-acclaimed Nanette appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday to promote her new show, Douglas (our review here), in which she speaks about the anti-vax movement through the prism of her own autism diagnosis.

“I talk about having autism, and I do do some anti-vaxxer material. Which is… dangerous,” she says. “And at the end of it I encourage people who don’t want to vaccinate their children that instead of having children perhaps they should get a pet rock.”

“So I’ve been making pet rocks to sell as merchandise.”

“I’ve signed them… I’m selling them for a charity for women and girls with autism,” she explained. “And non-binary folk, and anyone in a marginalised gender, which pretty much means everyone except you, Stephen.”

She’s asking for $100 per rock, quipping “the materials didn’t cost much, but my labour, I don’t think you can afford me”.
