Lin-Manuel Miranda Has Made You An Amazingly Dorky ‘West Wing’ Rap
"Agent Butterfield level detail on this track."
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has taken a break from his rapid ascent through the ranks of Walt Disney to pay tribute to one of his favourite pop culture properties: Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing.
Set to a beat by Hrishikesh Hirway, co-host of The West Wing Weekly podcast, the 90-second track is titled ‘What’s Next?’ after one of President Bartlet’s favourite expressions. Bartlet is sampled during the chorus, while the verses are packed with all kinds of obscure references to the show, from National Security Advisor Nancy McNally to Associate Justice Roberto Mendoza. This one’s for you, ya big nerds!
Miranda’s West Wing fandom has been well-documented. He previously called it one of the major sources of inspiration for Hamilton, and even took part in his very own walk-and-talk through the White House. Some people get to have all the fun.
