Yesterday, Childish Gambino AKA Donald Glover headlined at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California. His 90-minute set included a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’, and debuted a new song possibly entitled ‘Warlords’. He then premiered his secretive and much-anticipated film Guava Island, starring Glover and Rihanna.

Fortunately, those who couldn’t make it to the US don’t have to miss out entirely. Guava Island is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video for free – but for a limited time. I hope you weren’t doing anything this morning, because you have two and a half hours left to watch this movie without having to pay.

Filmed in Cuba, Guava Island tells the story of Deni Maroon (Donald Glover), a local musician who wants to run a music festival on the island. He is dating Kofi Novia (Rihanna), a seamstress. Letitia Wright plays Yara Love, Kofi’s co-worker, while Nonzo Anozie plays Red Cargo, a businessman who opposes Deni’s festival.

Sadly, Rihanna doesn’t perform on the Guava Island soundtrack. It does, however, predominantly feature Glover’s music, including ‘Summertime Magic’, ‘Feels Like Summer’ and viral hit ‘This Is America’. A new song called ‘Die With You’ plays over the delightfully animated opening credits.

The film was written by Stephen Glover, writer on television show Atlanta and brother to Donald Glover. It was directed by another one of Donald Glover’s longtime collaborators, Hiro Murai. Murai directed the majority of Atlanta‘s episodes, as well as several of Childish Gambino’s music videos such as ‘Sober’ and ‘This Is America’. Guava Island is his first feature film.

Guava Island is less than an hour long, so you’ll still be able to finish it if you get on it now. You won’t have to shell out a cent, but you’ll still need an Amazon account to view it.

Be quick about it though – after 11:00AM AEST today, Guava Island will be exclusively for Amazon Prime members. You can watch it here.
