When asked if he was a men's rights activist, Grimes simply replied: "He's not."

As we’ve explored at length in the past, there’s a particular kind of a disappointment that comes when your fave dates a dud. We shouldn’t really care of course — as long as our fave is happy, does it really matter? — but we do, and we grin and…not really bear it, most of the time.

Grimes and Elon Musk — Grusk, as some people valiantly tried to label them — are perhaps the archetypal ‘eugh really?’ couple. Ever since they stepped out together on the red carpet at the Met Gala a few years ago, they’ve been followed by 7.6 billion pairs of raised eyebrows. It didn’t help that they named their child X Æ A-12. For Grimes fans, the idea that the artist who formerly had “anti-imperialist” in her Twitter bio is now dating one of the world’s richest men is a little hard to take — and Grimes has continually dug in her heels to defend Musk, even over quite serious accusations of union-busting within his companies.

She’s continued to defend him against his many detractors over the years, including this week, after Musk was royally roasted after it was announced he’d be hosting an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live. On Sunday she posted a TikTok of her practising sword fighting — standard — for an upcoming video, and ended up tussling with fans in the comments who popped off about Musk.

“GRIMESS. HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS AND ACTIVELY SLEEP1NG WITH THE MAN WHO LOTERALLY DESTROY THE PLANET AND HUMANITY,” one aggrieved user yelled at her.

“How is he doing these things?” Grimes answered. “His whole career is about making travel/house power etc. sustainable and green. It’s worth a deep dive.” (Questionable.) Another user then proceeded to call Musk a men’s rights activist, to which Grimes answered: “He’s not. Def he’s been very immature at points on Twitter but for ex the president of SpaceX is a woman, as is his right hand at Neuralink etc.”

The comments got increasingly messy — and one just straight up asked Grimes who she was trying to convince.

“I don’t need to convince anyone haha. I accept this discourse,” she replied. “I’m just rly close to it so sum times I try to correct the misconceptions haha.”

The ‘haha’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
