Lil Nas X knows how to do celebrity right.

Rather than spending his newfound cultural capital (not to mention cold hard cash) on a lotta drugs, or the freedom to pee in a mop bucket while swearing about Bill Clinton, the ‘Old Town Road’ rapper has instead spent his time in the sunshine hanging out with his heroes. He’s already shot the shit with Kanye, rubbed shoulders (and cowboy spurs) with Billy Ray Cyrus — and now the young musician has joined forces with the shouty chef himself, Gordon Ramsay.

The, uh, let’s call it unlikely, friendship began when Lil Nas X reached out to Ramsay over Twitter, requesting a bunch of private panini-making lessons. There’s no more context I can give you on that sentence — why paninis? Why Ramsay? — but hey, remember that old adage about looking gift horses in the mouth?

From there, Ramsay shot back almost instantly, asking the ‘Old Town Road’ performer to choose a time and date. Which, evidently, Nas X has, ’cause the internet has now been blessed with a video of the two celebrities hanging in the celebrity chef’s restaurant and yes, having an intensive panini-making lesson together.

The resulting five minute clip is one of those beautiful, bizarre works of art that only the internet could give us. Nas X and Ramsay mumble greetings, make an (admittedly very delicious-looking) panini out of Asian-style ingredients, wander around Ramsay’s restaurant, play with a bunch of knives and hatchets, and slowly, heartwarmingly bond.

Basically, it’s exactly the wholesome serve of good times that the doctor ordered — although Lil Nas X himself reckons that there was a little something missing from the showdown, namely a whole bunch of shouting.

Watch the bizarre YouTube masterpiece below. Then, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not make a panini of your own? Just make sure you’re blasting ‘Old Town Road’ while you do it.
