It’s becoming harder and harder to ignore the fact that memes basically rule the music charts.

Over the last year we’ve witnessed Big Shaq’s ‘Mans Not Hot’ rocket up the charts (and into the Hottest 100), we seen Bag Raiders’ ‘Shooting Stars’ clip make it back into the mainstream (and also into a terrible Katy Perry film clip) and we’ve watched on in horror as the Cash Me Ousside girl became one of the most popular “rappers” on the planet.

The latest chart-based meme success comes in the form of Fleetwood Mac’s 41-year-old hit ‘Dreams’, which has just shot back into the Billboard Rock Charts thanks to this ubiquitous meme:

The short clip of Alcorn State University’s dance team has caused ‘Dreams’ to surge 36 percent in download sales according to data analysts Nielsen Music, with an additional 24 precent rise across streaming services.

Thanks to all this, it’s now landed at #7 in Billboard’s Hot Rock chart, 41 years after it debuted at #1. Thunder may only happen when it’s raining, but turns out lightning can definitely strike twice.

You can reacquaint yourself with the original brilliant song below, but for now please enjoy this selection of ‘Me, an intellectual’ memes:
