The team at The Feed have come up with an alternative to the government’s plan to bar immigrants from settling in major cities: rather than forcing skilled migrants to settle in regional Australia, why not ship all the baby boomers off there instead?

Honestly, I think they might be on to something.

In the sketch, the head of the “Boomer Resettlement Program” makes the case for the proposal.

“We’re looking at 4 million baby boomers retiring over the next 10 to 20 years,” she explains. “Quite frankly, it’s unsustainable.”

“It is going to take a carrot and stick approach to get the boomers to move,” she says. “Traditionally they’re very resistant to change. So for the last 15 years or so we’ve been running a deep psy-ops campaign to try and romanticise the idea of living in the country … shows like SeaChange, A Place To Call Home, Doctor Doctor, A Country Practice, 800 Words. Boomers love that shit.”

“If that doesn’t work, we’ll push them out,” she adds. “We’ll ban the following from metropolitan areas: midweek tennis competitions, writers festivals, Sculptures by the Sea, the real estate section of the newspaper, cryptic crosswords [and] any Shaun Micallef program.”
