10 Random Aussie Towns Are Getting A New Facebook Feature First
Facebook has today announced a mix of rural and medium sized Aussie cities get to play with their new toy first.
Facebook has today announced it is rolling out a brand new local news feature exclusively to citizens in a handful of Australian cities, so huge congrats to you if you live in… *checks notes*… Toowoomba? That can’t be right…
Nope it’s definitely Toowoomba, as well as Wollongong and Newcastle in NSW, Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong in VIC, Queensland’s Gold Coast, and Townsville, with cute lil’ capitals Hobart and Canberra rounding out the list. And none for Western Australia, bye.
The new feature, called ‘Today In…’ is a round-up of news, information, weather and events sourced from local community publications and groups and delivered to the feeds of those geographically inside said communities.
If you live in Canberra for example (hahaha why tho?) you can now expect to see a ‘Today In Canberra’ post pop up during your next FB scroll with links to local news articles, posts from local businesses and even school announcements from the nearby high school. Neat!

You guys! Why did no one tell me it’s crunch time for Queens Wharf Tower!!!
Part attempt to lessen the amount of fake news circling its site and part PR move to make it look like The Zucc is trying to lessen the amount of fake news circling its site, the feature has already been trialled in cities in the US, with Australia only the second country to gain access.
Apparently the criteria for selecting the exact regions for the beta test has something to do with how many daily Facebook users and how many active community groups and publications there are in a town. That or a robot arm randomly hurled darts at a map of Australia. Who knows!
The roll-out commences today which is great news for those who live in Townsville and want to know what backpacker has got drunkenly stuck up which tree or whatever goes on up there.
