Elliot Page has posted a photo to Instagram and Twitter in his first pair of ‘swim trunks’ and people across the internet are celebrating this moment of trans openness.

Page has received thousands of supportive comments, and on Instagram has got well over 1.7 million likes already.

Page came out as trans late last year in a statement he released on social media, sharing the support he’s received from loved ones, but also referring to the violence and discrimination experienced by the trans community, affirming his commitment to do “everything I can to change this world for the better”.

Page’s fans have reacted to the photo accordingly, calling out the importance of seeing trans joy on their feeds.

In an interview with Oprah that aired on Apple TV+ earlier this year, Page detailed why he decided to come out as trans publicly, explaining that the backlash towards trans people — and trans youth especially — that he’s witnessed made it “imperative to do so”.

He also described the decision to undergo top surgery as a “freeing experience” and transitioning as “life-saving” while he urged US officials to support healthcare for transgender people.
