The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (again)
Dov Kornits, FilmInk
I first tried to watch The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in my early teens. Watching it on VHS, the film’s griminess, realism and sense of the anticipation of terror actually put me off from getting through the entire film.
I tried to act tough, claiming that nothing happened to keep me watching this overrated shocker. However, many years later, after realising that 1970s American cinema is my favourite filmmaking era, and getting through Evil Dead, The Exorcist, et. al., I came back to this classic again and realised just how effective it is in depicting true terror.
