Eight Sequels That Should’ve Never Been Made
Do we really need a Mrs Doubtfire 2? Really?
Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)
Welcome to the archetype of sequel cautionary tales. When your original film — in this case, John Landis’ The Blues Brothers (1980) — is so definitive for its two lead actors, it’s probably best to avoid making a sequel after one of those leads has died. John Goodman isn’t a suitable replacement for John Belushi, okay? A critical and box office flop upon its release, this sequel — much like Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights (2004) — has been rightly forgotten. You’d think Dan Ackroyd would be especially wary of a reported Ghostbusters III after this debacle.
