Around this time each year, San Fransiscan mashup artist Jordan Roseman — aka DJ Earworm — releases a bit of a treat: an audio/video montage of the year’s biggest hits, ‘The United State of Pop’.

Earworm uses the Billboard charts for song selection and talked to them about this year’s mix, which doubles the normal amount of tracks included (it’s gone up to 50 from 25) and which, he says, is “more eclectic” than it was five years ago. “Music has been going through a softer phase than it was a few years ago so there’s that return of adult contemporary,” he said. “That’s maybe represented by the Ellie Goulding track, it’s very lush and soft. And then there’s sort of retro, uptempo dance stuff, and that’s represented by The Weeknd track.”

It also features Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Drake, Kanye West, Adele, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Meghan Trainor — and a whole bunch of people you’ve literally never seen or heard of in your life because Australia.

Enjoy.
