Being David Beckham In Shanghai Doesn’t Look Like Heaps Of Fun
A scheduled visit to a local university was cut short after a stampede, which injured seven. The footage is pretty dramatic.
David Beckham is in Shanghai at the moment, after being hired as an “image ambassador” to promote the new Chinese Super League soccer season.
One of his scheduled appearances was to play a demonstration match with Shanghai Tongji University– but the former English captain who retired last month was mobbed by over a thousand fans, who stormed a police cordon to get a look.
There are some pretty frightening, bloodied photos of the stampede, which injured three police officers, two university security guards and two students.
These less-graphic ones were published on the UK’s Daily Mail.

David Beckham has sent his best wishes on to the injured via Chinese social media site, Weibo, and apologised for having to cancel the game: “It was impossible to get through the crowds.”
