Darude Will Dun-Dun-Dun-Dun-Dun His Way Through Eurovision This Year
Do you hear something?
Darude, the king of sandstorms, will represent Finland in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The producer, born Ville Virtanen, won’t be performing his 1999 hit ‘Sandstorm’, though — over February, he’ll release three tracks which the Finnish public and an international jury will pick from. We can only guess they’ll judge the tracks while donning speed dealers, wearing chain necklaces and, when they need a break, chatting to new friends at 3am about Trainspotting.
We’ll hear the first possible track on February 8, with the two other songs dropping each subsequent Friday. Darude has revealed he’ll be performing with Sebastian Rejman of The Great Leap, which most likely means that Rejman’s vocals will feature on all three tracks.
Meanwhile, Australia’s own Eurovision competition is heating up, with 10 acts vying to represent us at this year’s competition in a Battle Royale-style singing competition this February 9 on the Gold Coast, airing live on SBS.
Competing are RuPaul Drag Race alum Courtney Act, Sheppard, Kate Miller-Heidke, Killing Heidi front-woman Ella Hooper, Mark Vincent, Aydan, ex-Bachelor Girl member Tania Doko, The Voice‘s Alfie Arcuri, wildcard entry Leea Nanos and Electric Fields (our pick of the bunch).
As Israel won this year’s Eurovision contest, next year’s competition will be held in Tel Aviv. As part of the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement, more than 100 artists from across the world have petitioned Eurovision Song Contest to move the awards to another country.
