If you’d told ten-year-old me that I’d one day get a TV series based on The Dark Crystal, the Jim Henson-helmed fantasy flick that made my childhood, I’d have laughed right in your time-travelling face.

But hey, that’s what it’s like living in the age of streaming, where nostalgia rules the day and every single property that anyone half remembers from their formative years is getting turned into a multi-million dollar connected universe.

So yes, here’s the thing — not only are we getting a TV series based on The Dark Crystal (it’s called Age Of Resistance and it looks jaw-droppingly beautiful), but said TV series is absolutely stuffed with talent.

The first cast announcement which went out last year was already pretty impressive — Taron Egerton of Rocketman, Anya Taylor-Joy of The Witch, Eddie Izzard, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg have all been pegged to play an assortment of gentle Gelflings and absolutely hideous Skeksis.

But today that talent has expanded even further: Netflix have just announced that Game of Thrones Lena Headey, Benedict Wong of Avengers fame, Awkwafina of Crazy Rich Asians, Sigourney Weaver of Alien and Dave Goelz of The Dark Crystal have all joined the project.

Netflix have also released a series of some of the most horrifying character posters imaginable, showing off the Skeksis in all their wrinkly, glaring glory. Feast your eyes, for instance, on the absolutely chilling image of Aughra, voiced by Donna Kimball.

Aughra from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

See? There’s a reason that The Dark Crystal has stuck with you for all these years. Not only is it intelligent, empathetic fantasy of the highest order, it’s also absolutely horrifying puppet magic, designed to ignite in you the most primal kind of fear.

Age of Resistance is hitting Netflix in full on August 30, when we’ll be blessed with ten episodes that run an hour each. That’s a lotta puppets.
