In a recent interview with Music Feeds, Courtney Barnett explained the inspiration behind her latest single ‘Depreston’: “When I first moved to Northcote, I was kind of sad and just in this bad point,” she said. “I went to Preston once a week to go to Centrelink and [‘Depreston’] just became this … idea, because of that memory.”

Such local and specific references haven’t hampered Barnett’s international appeal; with her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit set for release this Friday, Barnett is currently Stateside, readying herself for slots at South by South West in Texas, where she’s been pegged as one of the top ten acts to watch by Billboard magazine.

But right now she’s in California, wearing a Darren Hanlon T-shirt, and coming down from an excellent performance she just gave on Ellen. She got to hug her and everything.

It’s not the first time Barnett has graced the talkshow circuit; in April 2014, she appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show to perform ‘Avant Gardener’.

But in terms of ‘sharing a show with someone insanely famous’, Ellen is probably a bigger win. Because look who else was on the show today:
