Just like Willy Wonka except boring and hopefully with much less attempted child murder!

You guys remember physical money right? Little plastic notes and gold and silver coins? You’d hand it over to someone for goods and/or services and sometimes they’d give you some back? Yeah, those things.

In a blatant attempt to remind us all that these notes and coins still exist the Royal Australian Mint has revealed today they’ve sprung a nation-wide treasure hunt on us all.

The sneaky currency jockeys have secretly been releasing one dollar coins with tiny little markings of either the letters A, U or S on them and now they want you to try and collect them all.

Yep, it’s just like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, except not at all fun or exciting and hopefully with much less attempted child murder!

The treasure hunt is to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first ever Australian one dollar coin, a date forever etched in time as a watershed moment in our history, that signalled not just a coin worth $1 but a step forward for our great country. Just kidding! It’s only a fucking coin.

The real kicker about this whole thing is the prize. The prize! Hooo boy the prize sucks so many farts.

The new $1 coins with the A,U,S letters and a teeny ’35’.

If you get your grubby mitts on all three coins and enter online you could be the lucky recipient of… a free trip to Canberra!!!!! The Nation’s Capital!!!! The City Of Dreams!!!!

OK, Canberra’s not that bad of a place and admittedly you do also win a 1kg pure silver coin, which a quick Google tells me is worth about $600 if you melted it down and sold it off. (Which is about what you’d need to pay me to visit Canberra TBH).

So there you go, get hunting for them coins! Or don’t! I don’t care! I’ll be over here not doing that and paywaving my life away.
