So Qantas just unveiled their new uniforms at an event at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, with Cate Blanchett, Kate Ceberano and Neil Perry in the crowd. Following in the footsteps of Pucci, YSL and Marc Newson, the uniforms were created by Melbourne-born, Paris-based designer Martin Grant, and will be worn from early next year.

Miranda Kerr modeled one of them, and called it “comfortable, stylish and chic.”

The uniforms feature the Qantas red as well as a fuchsia pink, ruby red, white and navy, in diagonal stripes – a callback to the logo’s triangle: “I have always loved the Qantas logo as it’s very nostalgic for me,” quoth Martin Grant in the fact sheet. “The idea of a flying kangaroo! The red triangle, movement and clarity.” There have been 35 styles designed and 15 fabrics used, and approximately 400,000 garments will be sent to 85 different locations in 21 countries.

There’s no word yet on whether the trilby hat must be worn quite so jauntily. Apparently it was made in a “knitted fabric made from recycled bottle tops”, which we have no idea how that kind of thing can happen but good for them.
