Comedian Amy Schumer and model Emily Ratajkowski were amongst hundreds of people arrested today at a protest against US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the guy making headlines at the moment after multiple women accused him of sexual assault.

Thousands of people marched on Washington today to call for the Senate to reject Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, calling on lawmakers to believe the women who accused him. Over two hundred of those marching were arrested after they began protesting inside a Senate building, including Schumer and Ratajkowski.

In a video posted to Twitter, Schumer told viewers “I think we’re going to get arrested”. Another video, filmed by bystanders, shows a cop asking Schumer and other protestors if they want to get arrested, to which Schumer responds “yes”.

Earlier in the march, Schumer addressed the crowd with a message of support. “Let’s stay together. Let’s fight. Let’s keep showing up.”

Model Emily Ratajkowski also joined the protesters, attending the rally holding a sign that read “respect female existence or expect our resistance”.

“Today I was arrested protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, a man who has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault,” Ratajkowski wrote on Instagram after the protest. “Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power. Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is a message to women in this country that they do not matter. I demand a government that acknowledges, respects and supports women as much as it does men.”

The first votes to determine whether Kavanaugh will get the Supreme Court position are set to begin tomorrow.
