An American Bakery Chain Is Being Slammed For Using Carrie Fisher’s Death To Sell Buns
Gross.
American pastry leviathan Cinnabon is being raked over the coals for seemingly attempting to capitalise on the recent passing of beloved actress Carrie Fisher.
The company drew the ire of social media users earlier today after tweeting a cinnamon portrait of Fisher as her Star Wars character Princess Leia, with her iconic hair bun represented by the bakery chain’s signature cinnamon roll. The image was accompanied by a similarly tone-deaf caption that read “RIP Carrie Fisher, you’ll always have the best buns in the galaxy.”
Email to social media dept.: "Carrie Fisher in critical condition, please be ready to activate across social. " @Cinnabon team: pic.twitter.com/vQxBELGij2

The tweet was deleted in less than an hour, but the damage had already been done.
@Cinnabon Never, never use a death to promote your brand. Poor taste.

@Cinnabon Tacky. Get over yourself and stop capitalizing on the tragic loss of an icon.. #Objectification

My opinion about Cinnabon is the same as it was before the tweet.
I wouldn’t eat it if it was the last thing in the airport.

Some Twitter users have since leapt to Cinnabon’s defence, arguing that the message was meant as nothing more than a heartfelt tribute, and that the prospect of cashing in on a person’s death was just the icing on the cake hard, sugar-encrusted dough lumps that Cinnabon attempts to pass off as pastry. These users are adorable.
Seriously though, fuck off Cinnabon.
