The response to the Paris attacks in the United States has been predictably unhinged, particularly from conservatives. Despite no evidence any of the Paris attackers were Syrian refugees, prominent Republicans are using the tragedy to launch verbal attacks against said refugees, much like how they will launch physical attacks with bombs and high-altitude drone strikes against completely innocent people if they get elected.

To date, 26 US governors have refused to accept Syrian refugees from settling in their states, despite having no constitutional authority to do so, and twelve Republican Presidential candidates have called for a halt to America’s Syrian refugee intake. Presumably all these individuals will also be banning Christmas, the well-known celebration of two Middle Eastern refugees fleeing persecution at the hands of a bloodthirsty tyrant.

Frontrunner Donald Trump has gone even further, saying that he will strongly consider shutting down America’s mosques if he’s elected President. Here’s video of that policy being announced.

Closing the nation’s mosques may be tricky, given the US Constitution guarantees freedom of religious expression, but a country that managed to proclaim “all men are created equal” while simultaneously sustaining a slave trade for more than two centuries is pretty good at upholding those parts of the Constitution it likes and ignoring the rest.

To unpack the knotty legal, ethical and practical implications of such a ban, or just to get some people yelling at one another, Fox News host Megyn Kelly hosted a debate discussing the issue. One of the panellists was Trump campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pearson, who presented several substantive and compelling arguments for abandoning land-bound civilisation and starting a wonderful new life under the sea.

The other was Saba Ahmed, president and founder of the Republican Muslim Coalition, and she won the debate before anyone uttered a damn word, because she rocked up dressed like this:

“Sup.”

Ahmed told New York’s Daily News she wore the hijab because she “just wanted to show that Muslim Americans celebrate our patriotism, too”.

“I’m a proud American. I love the flag. That’s why I’m wearing it, because I’m so proud of it,” Ahmed said.

You can watch the debate in full below, if seeing a nutcase provoked to eye-popping fury by someone’s headscarf is your idea of fun (hint: it is).

Also in today’s episode of Muslim Women Trolling Idiots, NSW Upper House MP Mehreen Faruqi has some pretty vicious social media game when it comes to International Men’s Today, which is today if you’re wondering why Lynx Africa air pollution levels are even higher than normal.
