Long-term relationships are sometimes misrepresented as boring. Little do people know that having a confidant by your side 24/7 can result in some of the most genuine and fun memories that will last you a lifetime.

Having your very own personal life coach, booger checker and comedian definitely comes with its perks. Here are eight unspoken benefits of being in a long-term relationship.

You Get Your Own Personal Beauty Therapist

You no longer have to awkwardly ask your roommate’s visiting cousin to help you apply fake tan to the awkward spot on your back you can’t reach (or alternatively dislocate one of your own shoulders in the process of attempting to do it by yourself). You also now have your very own masseur, eyebrow-plucker, hairstylist and pimple-popper.

You Get Your Own Personal Chauffeur

Feeling exhausted after a long day at work and don’t want to take the 45-minute train? When you’re in a long-term relationship, that problem is solved. You’re also able to enjoy an extra half-hour of hitting the snooze alarm in the morning since you don’t have to rush to join the queue for the bus into uni.

More Food

You never again have to face the incredibly difficult decision of deciding between pizza and pasta at a restaurant. You now have the privilege of being able to share meals and steal food off of each other’s plate.

You Don’t Need To Look Perfect

Trackies to late night movie dates at the cinema? Yes, please! The expectation to dress up and look perfect on date night disappears after you have been dating for a while. It’s plenty more fun to wear pants that expand with your stomach as it grows over dinner.

Travel Is Easier

Having a travelling companion is the best way to jet set across the globe. You no longer have the excuse of being scared to spend time alone or getting lost in a foreign country (now you just have someone to look like a lost and confused touristy-noob with you). Not to mention that you can split the cost of a hotel room or AirBnb between you. Plus travelling with friends or family for extended periods of time can often result in personality clashing. However since you know your partner so well, it is much easier to just tell them that they’re being annoying and move on.

Everything Is Cheaper

Not only is rent cheaper, but you also get to split the cost of electricity and Internet bills. You are also fortunate to have the perfect cinematic collection, given that you can afford to pay for two or more television/film streaming sites (e.g. Netflix, Stan and Foxtel). Enjoy unlimited access to Game of Thrones and Friends and Gilmore Girls.

Chores Become Fun

Simple daily tasks can sometimes be the highlight of your day when you get to complete them with your best friend/soul mate. Grocery shopping becomes a fun weekly adventure (I never realised that you could laugh so much in Woolies when you have the right company).

You Have Your Own Personal Cheerleader

You get to be constantly reassured of your talents and ambitions. Someone will always be there to support you through every triumph and failure (and celebrate with you for not burning the pancakes).

Although we can sometimes take our partners for granted in long-term relationships, it’s important to remember that we really should treasure these little benefits, as they just so happen to make life a little more worth living and a lot more enjoyable.
