6 Things We Do At Uni That We Would Never Do In High School

We all thought we'd never end up wearing pyjamas to class. Ha! Good times.

Back in high school, you and your friends would swap crazy stories about what uni life would be like, and you’d think to yourself, “No way would I ever do any of that!”.

Fast forward a few years and it’s safe to say that you’ve definitely done a few things in uni that you swore you would never. Our younger selves would be horrified by what we have become.

#1 Wear The Same Outfit For A Week (Or More)

Outfit repeating was the worst fashion sin you could commit in high school. Even if your free dress days were months apart, the idea of wearing the same outfit more than once was horrifying.

Doing laundry is hard so when you find a really good uni outfit, you’ll wear it to death. If Lizzie McGuire can be an outfit repeater, then we can too.

#2 Wear Pyjamas To Class

My older cousin once told me that she would sometimes wear pyjamas into uni and I was absolutely mortified. I wouldn’t even dream of going to uni without makeup on, let alone wearing what I’d slept in the night before.

The further you get into the uni semester, the less you care about what you look like. You’ll prioritise sleep and being comfortable over putting effort into your appearance, and I can guarantee that you won’t be the only one with this mentality.

#3 Skip Classes

When lecturers don’t mark attendance, and aren’t forcing you to turn up, it’s easy to convince yourself that you’ll just watch your lecture later online (which, btw, never happens).

Before you know it, you’ll find yourself in a vicious cycle of skipping lectures to catch up on lectures that you skipped to catch up on other lectures.

#4 Aim For Ps Instead Of HDs

High school was all about getting good grades to get into uni but once you get to uni, all that motivation goes right out the door.

As long as you’re passing your courses, you’re on the road to graduate. So, what’s the point of putting in all that extra effort when you’re just going to end up with the same result?

#5 Drink More Than Once A Week

We all knew there would be drinking at uni, but I don’t think many of us realised just how much we would be drinking.

Those student-friendly drink prices at the uni bar make it hard to just have a casual bevvie or two. Throw in all the booze-filled uni social events and it’s very easy to accidentally end up doing a three-day bender.

#6 Sleeping A Lot

Uni is exhausting and while you used to think naps were for toddlers or for the elderly, you’ve now found yourself taking some pretty unusual naps.

You’ll take naps anywhere on campus that’s comfortable enough, you’ll set timers for your 17-minute power naps before heading to class and sometimes you’ll accidentally nap for half the day.
